Fashion Trends Of The Last 100 Years

by Administrator 3. May 2009 04:27

Those of us who track current trends know that it seems like fashion changes by the day. The styles that are popular today are suddenly outdated tomorrow.

But when we stop to take a look at the bigger picture, we see that over the last 100 years, fashion in the United States has made some big statements. Here are some of the most memorable fashion trends from the past 100 years:

Fashion of 1910s

Some of the fashion trends of the 1910s included belts at or above the waist, high waisted trousers and dresses and other modest clothing typical of this era. By the end of the 1910s, World War I was at full onset, and fashion became driven by practicality.

Fashion of 1920s

The 1920s marked one of the first decades in fashion that saw women abandon more modest apparel for that which was comfortable and liberating. Shorter dresses and skirts became trademarks of the “flapper” style.

Fashion of 1930s

The fashion of the 1920s quickly transformed back to more traditional styles in the 1930s with the deepening of the Great Depression. Women began wearing more modest dresses again and traditional feminine styles returned.

Fashion of 1940s

As World War II raged into the 1940s, fashion became dictated by practical, simple designs, and more women began wearing trousers as a result of the work they contributed during the war.

Fashion of 1950s

In the 1950s, fashion became more relaxed and casual than decades before, with flowing dresses, large hats, beehive hair, and more dramatic makeup taking hold.

Fashion of 1960s

Fashion began making bold statements in the 1960s, as less modest skirts & dresses became popular, along with calf-high go-go boots, bright prints, and more dramatic hairstyles.

Fashion of 1970s

The fashion of the 1960s carried into the 1970s – but bigger. Flared bell-bottom jeans, staggering platform shoes, and flowing cloths were fed by the disco floors.

Fashion of 1980s

In the 1980s, pop culture fueled fashion styles that included off-the-shoulder sweatshirts, leggings, big belts (matched only by big hair), and styles that included tighter pants and looser shirts for both men and women. Modest skirts? Not at all – instead, the 1980s became famous for the boom of the mini skirt.

Fashion of 1990s

Fashion in the 1990s brought the concept of appearing to disregard fashion. The grunge movement early in the decade meant baggy pants, flannel shirts and midriff-baring shirts for women would become the norm. Women’s fashion became more masculine as a result.

Fashion of 2000s

While fashion has changed dramatically throughout the 2000s, some of the major trends have included lower waistlines, lower back tattoos, Ugg boots, and, as the end of the decade draws to a close, tighter pants and leggings.

Undertease in Nordstrom! Fashion Place Grand Opening

by Nicki 10. March 2009 07:58

Nordstroms Grand Opening at Fashion Place Mall in SLC, UT

March 6th, 2009

Friday was a big day for the remodeled Fashion Place Mall! Nordstrom was finally finished and they had their Grand Opening. Suzanne Broadbent and Lori Dwyer attended the opening sale and were able to meet the anxious and excited customers. The picture shown above (right) is Suzanne and an adorable display of her fantastic new modest skirt (pencil) and ruffled polyester blouse (left). The ruffled blouse was Nordstrom's Point of View #2 best seller! Suzanne had to leave and bring back 60 more camisoles, which was way more than we expected.

I went up with a friend Friday night and the store was still packed. You set down a shirt you were looking at and it was snatched up immediately! I have to say the Undertease racks looked fabulous! My friend fell in love with the Undertease new pencil skirt and ruffled blouse. She also has several Undertease cami's and T's she says have held great shape for several years.

I think Undertease fits beautifully into Nordstrom, which is where I go for all my top trend purchasing.

I'm excited to see more product arrive at Nordstroms! Swing by and check it out in the Point of View section.

Check out this video!
